Experiences of Caring

Carer Stories Project

The Carer Stories Project aims to give Carers a voice to share their experiences of caring through written accounts, video and audio recordings, art and more.

We began in November 2020 by asking for Carers to share their experiences to help raise awareness of Carers and to help identify hidden Carers in our communities. Since then we have had over fifty Carers who have said they are happy to share their stories!

We have been working through our list and trying to record as many stories as possible. If you expressed an interest but haven’t heard from us yet, we apologise and please be assured that will be in touch soon.

Your Story Matters

One of the things we hear time and again from Carers is how much it helps to hear what others are going through – how this encourages them and gives ideas for coping with their own situation.

Sharing your story with others can help them to see that they are not alone in what they are going through, but it also gives you a chance to speak about your experiences in your own voice.

We can include as much or as little information as you want, and we can do it anonymously if you prefer. We will show you the finished story before it is shared, and you can specify where it can and cannot be used.

This is about telling your story your way

  • If you are interested in sharing, we can work with you to tell your story in a way that you are comfortable with. This might be:

  • An article

  • A story

  • Poem

  • A piece of art

  • An audio recording

  • Animation

  • Or a video
